“Diversified Demands, Global Revealing”. The 2021 Pujiang Innovation Forum · Global Tech-Matching Fair was held in Shanghai recently. It is the first technology exhibition themed on innovation demands in China, aiming to strengthen the linkage and cooperation between the demand and supply sides of technology innovation. As an important event of the Pujiang Innovation Forum, this year’s Global Tech-Matching Fair included a Hydrogen Summit, which was held in Shanghai on June 1, bringing together top organizations in the hydrogen energy industry and China’s industry representatives.

The summit was attended by Xie Wenlan, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Committee of Science and Technology, Xie Jihua, Chairman of the China National Eastern Tech-transfer Center, Yi Baolian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Song Xuefeng, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Shenergy Group, Heads of Toyota and Hyundai, two leading enterprises in the sector of fuel cell vehicles, and representatives of global and Chinese leading companies in hydrogen fuel cell industry. On the occasion of the upcoming release of the List of City Clusters Popularizing FCV by the five state-level ministries and commissions, the guests exchanged their opinions and outlooks on the topics of “Global Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Trend” and “Opportunities for China’s Hydrogen Energy Industry Development”.

Xie Wenlan, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Committee of Science and Technology, gave an opening speech for the summit by introducing the current guiding policies of the government. Xie Wenlan mentioned in his speech that in the current context of the energy industry, the development of hydrogen energy industry is increasingly a global consensus. China attaches great importance to the development of hydrogen energy technology. Under the outlines for the 14th Five-Year Plan, hydrogen is among the six major industries planned for the future.
The Shanghai Municipal People’s Government is currently seeking to provide policy support for the industry and has introduced a host of industrial policies, including Several Policies on Supporting the Development of Shanghai’s Fuel Cell Vehicle Industry, Action Plan of Shanghai Municipality for the Innovative Development of the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Industry and Implementation Plan of Shanghai Municipality for Accelerating Industrial Development. Holding all the aces in terms of policy environment, leadership recognition, organizational promotion and project support, the hydrogen energy is having the best time in its 20-year history. The release of the Circular of Launching Demonstration Applications of Fuel Cell Vehicles by the five ministries and commissions in September 2020 has brought about a new round of development opportunities for the fuel cell vehicle industry. Shanghai has set a target of building 100 hydrogen refueling stations, reaching a hydrogen energy industry scale of RMB 100 billion, and popularizing the use of more than 10,000 fuel cell vehicles by 2023. Industry experts and enterprises are expected to make positive contributions to the development of the hydrogen fuel cell industry.

Lin Qi, Chairman and CEO of REFIRE, was invited to give a speech on the theme of “Industry Transformation · Technology Innovation” at the summit. According to Lin Qi, in the upcoming stage of hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry scaling new heights, REFIRE will continue to contribute to industry transformation with its technological innovation. In terms of business layout, REFIRE will focus on three major areas that are closely related to fuel cell system integration technology and system control technology, namely, fuel cell system technology, electric pile and membrane electrode technology and power electronics technology, to develop core technology competence.
As for technological innovation, based on the specific demands of different heavy truck application scenarios for fuel cell systems in the future, REFIRE will, with the main objective of improving the economical efficiency of the whole life cycle cost and product reliability of fuel cell products and focus on the materials and processes of electric pile and fuel cell system-level control strategies, develop three core technologies, including system design and control technology for high economical efficiency, non-destructive low-temperature start-up technology for alpine regions and electric pile material system and hydrothermal balance technology aimed at long service life, which are expected to be adopted by the PRISMA fuel cell system series of REFIRE.
In the near future, a more powerful product of the PRISMA series will be launched, which uses REFIRE’s self-developed ELECTRA electric pile, with a power density of 4.4kW/L and a design service life of about 30,000 hours, which improves the product’s economic efficiency while providing efficient and stable power output for heavy trucks in diversified application scenarios. With respect to commercial application, REFIRE is working hand in hand with its industrial partners to build an ecosystem for hydrogen energy applications to establish a closed loop of cooperation among enterprises on the energy side, product side and scene side, and to verify and replicate business scenarios so as to set the stage for a larger scale market about to create.

The government is highly supportive of and has put great expectation on the hydrogen fuel cell industry, and the guests from enterprises in the industry also gave a presentation in turn to show their insights on the current situation and their ideas on the development trend of the industry in the future. As Chairman Lin Qi said in his speech, our efforts will be directed towards sustainable business scenarios, and REFIRE is willing to work together with industrial partners to contribute to the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cell industries, and the large-scale and deep decarbonization of transportation industry and other related sectors.
